Ohhh My Word!

I have been wanting to Ludovico Einaudi for the longest time. I saw on Facebook that he was coming to Cardiff, my home city - I was not going to miss the opportunity!

I remember listening to Experience during a really tough time as an adolescent and for me the piece resembles an inner strength, it is so special to me.

After what felt like years of waiting, the day had arrived. My partner and I caught the train into Cardiff, went to out hotel - we stayed at Hotel Indigo! It is a pretty cute hotel although the lift is super slow so either bring a bag you can carry up and down the stairs or be prepared to wait. Ahh, I went slightly off topic.

After we changed and made ourselves look presentable we went to eat at  Bar 44.

A tapas restaurant. On their website they state 'the focus at Bar 44 is on impeccably sourced ingredients served simply with a modern touch and a whole load of passion from the team', which I can happily confirm is true. Everything was cooked incredible and the service was excellent.

After food we wondered to Cardiff Utilita Arena where Einaudi was playing. When we arrived a glass of wine was needed and  we made our way to our seats, we were sitting pretty far in the back but actually the view was great and I have no complaints other than the fact I always been to be sitting behind a tall bald man at every concert or performance I attend ha.

On arrival Sam Lee was playing. He is a very unique artist not only in sound but approach. His music and work is driven by heritage and our relationship with the elements. I felt truly honoured to have been exposed to such an incredible artist. It is humbling seeing an artist stay true to themselves.

After a huge applause Einaudi made his way to the solo grand piano that stood still at centre stage. After one note the crowd went silent, we sat captivated. As the performance continued a violinist (Federico Mecozzi), cellist (Redi Hasa) and percussion joined forces and honestly it was spine tingling. They ended on Experience maybe Einaudi's most played piece and everyone was smiling. It just amazing to think that no words were spoken because music speaks all languages.

I still cannot believe we have been blessed enough to be put on the planet at the same time as this incredible musician. I am in awe.

Until next time.
